In the aftermath of the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906, Colbert Coldwell objected to the unprincipled actions of sales associates of the time who acquired property from uneducated sellers and then resold in order to make large profits. He saw a need for honest, knowledgeable real estate professionals and formed his own company. The new company was based on a revolutionary philosophy: the client’s best interest above all.

Arthur Banker

In 1913, Arthur Banker joined Colbert Coldwell as a full-time partner, Coldwell Banker was born. Together they created a tradition of integrity, extraordinary service and customer satisfaction that became the company’s trademark. The company was far ahead of its time in its focus on customer service. The founding practice of providing professionalism and superior customer service remains the center of the philosophy.
